WATCH: What are The Rugby Sevens all about?

The Rugby Sevens is the longest running sports event in the Middle East and is televised live to 148 countries.

Yeah, it’s that huge.

Over the last 50 years the Rugby Sevens has become one of the world’s premier Sevens events.

Since 2008 the event has been held at The Sevens Stadium and Emirates’ purpose-built venue, which is a pretty impressive place to watch a game.

And just in case you were thinking that Rugby is a man’s sport, please check your conditioning.

In 2012, Dubai hosted the first event of the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series won by New Zealand.

There are 12 international women’s teams all competing along with 16 international men’s teams.

The four main competitions are:

HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series – First leg of the Series

HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series – Second leg of the Series

The Emirates Airline Invitation Rugby Tournament

The Emirates Airline Invitation Netball Tournament

The Rugby Sevens is also really big on getting children involved in the sport, which is fairly new in the Middle East region. Arabs are more into football remember?

In 2018, over 20 schools and over 3,000 children took part rugby-oriented games to help promote the sport and learn more about it.

With over 38,000 players competing in the invitation tournament (including Arab players too) The Rugby Sevens is going to be three days of rugby, netball and a lot of fun.

And if you’re not into sports, well, there’s always Kylie to look forward to.

The Rugby Sevens is taking place from 5 December to 7 December 2019 at The Sevens Stadium, on the Al Ain Road, in Dubai, UAE.  You can now purchase their tickets online at www.dubairugby7s.com and travel packages are also available and can be viewed at www.dubairugby7s.com/holidays
