Footloose: The Musical Is Coming to Abu Dhabi!

The Abu Dhabi Choral Group is bringing the 80’s classic to the stage at NYU Abu Dhabi and we have an exclusive video of their practices!

The Arts Center at NYUAD announced that Footloose: The Musical will be a collaboration with Abu Dhabi Choral Group (ADCG). The show will be performed at The Red Theatre.

Planning a trip to the UAE soon? Or are you based in or close to the capital of the UAE? Then you need to check out what’s happening in NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD).

The Arts Center at NYUAD recently announced a new series of performance this summer in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Choral Group (ADCG), which is Abu Dhabi’s longest running community theater group.

FOOTLOOSE! The Musical based on the huge pop culture classic with a massive following will be on performed at The Red Theater (see below for dates)

Shows will take place following Eid al Fitir break and you can expect to be transported back to everything we loved about the 80’s (big hair, shoulder pads, and amazing ballads).

If ADCG’s previous shows such as The Addams Family Musical, and Legally Blonde – The Musical,  are anything to go by FOOTLOOSE! The Musical will be delivering a high energy show filled with singing and dancing to some legendary pop anthems.

ADCG is the longest running amateur music group in the UAE. They were established in 1977 and perform two shows a year. Now in their 42nd season, they have has staged over 75 shows!

‘Over the past few years, we’ve become fans of ADCG as one of most engaged community organizations on the cultural scene in Abu Dhabi,’ Bill Bragin, Executive Artistic Director at The Arts Center said.

‘Following Eid in June is a perfect time to deepen The Arts Center’s commitment to showcasing UAE-based talent by inviting ADCG into Red Theater, one of the finest venues in the country.

We look forward to supporting them in bringing their production to even higher levels as ADCG brings this spirited and celebratory production to the stage.’

FOOTLOOSE! The Musical is based on the 1984 musical film starring Kevin Bacon who Ren McCormack a high school who moves to a Midwestern town and discovers that dancing and rock music are illegal. But it’s more than just a bunch of kids who want to break the law by dancing.

It’s about overcoming grief and emotional healing represented through the art of dance.

The musical score was Oscar and Tony-nominated while the original film soundtrack reached number one on the Billboard charts and sold over 15 million copies.
