Exclusive variant for DC comics #1000 issue will be sold in the UAE

Comic Stop, a local comic book store in the UAE will be exclusively selling The Detective Comics #1000 with a special cover.

Big news for all comic fans out there across the Arab world (and beyond).  It’s been 80 years since Detective Comics (DC) launched their first issue and this year marks their 1000th issue!

The very 1st comic Batman ever, appeared in Detective Comics #27 and has since then been a staple of the famed comic series and has pretty much seeped into all facets of our culture – in case you haven’t noticed.

According to a statement on the DC website (www.dccomics.com) this issue will be one of their most exciting. They wrote:

“The 96-page issue is stacked with an unbelievable lineup of talent that will take you on a journey through Batman’s past, present and future… plus a sensational epilogue that features the first-ever DC Universe appearance of the deadly Arkham Knight! But who is under the mask? And why do they want Batman dead? The incredible future of Batman adventures begins here!”

To celebrate this milestone issue, retailers around the world have pushed to get variant covers for the anticipated collectors item.

Comic Stop, located in Dubai, UAE is the first store in the GCC to ever have an exclusive Batman cover in the history of the region. They shared the news in a post on their Instagram account.

Illustrator and owner of comic stop Saeed Arjumand said that it took just over a year worth of work to get the exclusive comic to his store.

“It was one of those things that I knew, as soon as I found the opportunity to do it, that I had to do it. It’s not only the Detective Comics 1000 issue where Batman first appeared in, but it’s also my favourite character of all time,” Saeed told The Arab Edition.

“I feel so grateful that we got to be part of this milestone celebration of the 80 years of batman. It’s not just a great achievement for us, but it’s a great achievement for the country. The UAE has their very own cover that you can’t pick up in any other store anywhere else in the world.”

The exclusive cover is designed by comic book writer and artist Tony Daniel who is known for his work on various books for DC Comics which including Teen Titans, Flash: The Fastest Man Alive, and Batman.

“And Tony who did the cover is a brilliant artist. He’s one of the key Batman artists in the last decade or so and it’s a pleasure having him as the cover artist. It’s crazy, unbelievable and we are so excited to have it here.”

The Detective Comics #1000 will be exclusively on sale at their store located in Dar Wasl Mall upon its worldwide release on March 27 of this year.
